As good as it getsPut this on my 2011 Toyota Prius and love it! Honestly I searched thoroughly for a solid product and this is it, this is the best in my opinion. I put a class 3 hitch on my Prius so it can support this system and I put the cargo carrier that goes with it on and drive from Minnesota to California and back on a weeks long road trip and never once had issues with it. It’s very sturdy and feels very well built. It’s a purchase I don’t think I’ll ever regret and can switch from car to car when I trade in.

Yakima rackWay way heavier than anticipated.

Works as expected but heavy.I bought the swing base and gear warrior locally and so far it has been great, solving two problems. The swing base allows us to get our dogs out of the back easily and the gear warrior allows us to store more camping gear, giving our two dogs more room in the back of our SUV. The swing base is very heavy which makes it strong but difficult to attach and remove for one person. Im 5′ 10″, 180lbs and I can do it by myself but its a strain. The large T bolt that is removed to allow the swing base to open can be difficult to line up and screw back in quickly but not big deal just requires patience, would be nice if it lined up perfectly every time.

Does not cover tag or lightsI used this on a trip to the NC mountains with the Yakima cargo box. The hitch is advertised as 62lbs. Sure seems heavier! The hitch is well-designed and one person can mount both pieces. The cargo box is easier to maneuver than a roof cargo box.The setup worked nicely, did not affect car handling (albeit a big suv). Because of the box’s low profile, tag and taillights were clear so I didn’t have to remount the tag or fool with a light system. The 10-or-so cubic feet of the Yakima cargo box holds a lot of the nonsense you don’t want in the car anyway. I always felt confident that everything was secure. Never felt I’d see a trail of PJs and socks in my rearview mirror.

Video equals – ZERO!Wow. The EXO video did not show anything AT ALL about the EXO swing-away of its’ ‘system. Lots of pretty imagery but ZERO value to my decision making.

Dented on ArrivalLet me first say that I really like this swingaway cargo rack. I have not regretted getting one because otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to open up the back of my van. I like how I can change out the elements as my needs change. It was a pain to assemble and there were a couple of dents that didn’t allow an assembly screw to be installed. The box was perfectly intact so I have to assume that the dents happened during or after manufacture.I had to watch the assembly video on YouTube, which I highly recommend.

Excellent option for those with a hitchThe base plus a Exo Gear locker, top shelf, and another GearLocker and you’ve got a lot of cargo space added. Swing-away gate allows your hatch to still open (mine will open just fine when only using the base and one GearLocker as well).
